Petaling Jaya, March 17, 2017: Tham Lexuan career progression had been prodigious.

Four years delving into public relations (PR) had carved her path into the industry – potentially making her one of the youngest PR practitioners ever to climb the professional ladder with an overseas job stint even before her convocation.

Today, the 23-year-old added another feather to her cap when she was awarded the first Supernewsroom Young PR Professional Award 2016.

“I feel honored to receive this award from Supernewsroom and I believe that this is not for me alone, but also for all Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) PR students that I represent.”

“This is a very significant award and I believe that this will inspire other PR students to excel, thus contributing more to the industry,” said Tham said after receiving her award at Supernewsroom here, today.

Upon receing the award, Tham believes she represent all PR UTAR students

Tham is now attached to multinational telecommunication firm in Dubai. Little did she know that her stint was a considering factor in securing the award.

Presenting the award today is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Intelectasia Consultancy, Manminder Kaur Dhillon, who founded and heads Supernewsroom – the leading digital PR platform in Asia.

“Supernewsroom is all about innovation and the future. So we wanted to acknowledge students who embody the same principles of what Supernewsroom is all about. Someone who perseveres and able to step out of their comfort zone in order to excel. Those are the values that inspired us to come up with this award.”

“ Tham is a first class honours student in her batch and she deserves the award for her effort in spearheading a lot of PR campaigns and events at UTAR,” said Manminder.

Speaking on its incentives, she said award recipients would be given a secured job placement in Supernewsroom.

“They will be offered to work here for six months to obtain industry exposure and once they are confirmed, they can remain here and build their career. We are giving them this opportunity aside from the plaque and monetary token.”

“We would love to work with other universities which offer PR courses because we look forward to recognize their talent.

“Of course we also hope that the Supernewsroom Young PR Professional Award will not only be confined to Malaysia, but will be given to outstanding PR talents  across Asia and maybe one day, global,” she added.

Also present in the award ceremony is UTAR Dean Faculty of Art and Social Sciences, Dr Alia Azalea (middle) and UTAR Head of PR Department, Mr Pong Kok Shiong (third from right)

Present in the award ceremony is the Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Science of UTAR, Dr Alia Azalea as well as Head of Public Relations Department of the faculty, Pong Kok Shiong.
