Kuala Lumpur, March 3, 2017: With an increase of 35 per cent mobile transactions since its launch only eight months ago, Shopback, the first South-east Asian cash back company, has already bagged its first international award.

Shopback won the Global Mobile Challenge (GMC) top prize at the awards ceremony in Barcelona, Spain on March 1, emerging on top of the list of the e-commerce apps market.

Headquartered in Singapore with presence in Malaysia, the Philippines, India, Indonesia and Taiwan, ShopBack is an e-commerce aggregator platform that elevates the online shopping experience with its Cashback programme.

The start-up company managed to sign up over half a million regional users of which 560,000 users are in Malaysia alone.

“Our Product team has worked tirelessly behind-the-scenes to build a reliable and effective mobile app that secures the award today,” Shopback co-founder, Lai Shanru said today.

Shanru added that it was a remarkable milestone for the company as it affirms their direction to move forward and becoming the platform for consumers to shop in a smarter way.

Present at the award ceremony was the IE Business School entrepreneurship professor, Paris del’Etraz who stated that Shopback deserved to be awarded for its savvy mobile platform.

“We are truly impressed with the quality of mobile solutions presented this year. It was difficult to arrive at the crème de la crème among these strong participants from Asia, Africa, Eurasia, Europe, the United States, Latin America and the Middle East,” said del’Etraz.

The award ceremony was co-organized by IE Business School and the Applied Innovation Institute, in partnership with 4FYN (Four Years From Now) and Mobile World Capital.

GMC is the biggest mobile application competition for young entrepreneurs and innovators globally and for this year, over 20 teams from six continents were brought together on the global stage to strive for the title.

Commenting on the triumph, Shopback Chief Product Officer, Justin Lee said that their win at GMC is an encouraging validation of their effort to expand beyond the Cashback programme.

“We have lined up many new features aimed at delighting our users across all kinds of shopping experiences, whether it is a daily lifestyle necessity or an online retail therapy fix.”

“We cannot wait to showcase what the team has been working on,” Lee added.
