Shah Alam, 15 July 2020 – SIRIM Berhad (SIRIM), a leading organisation for technology and quality solutions is creating another milestone in smart manufacturing and related services in the Asia Pacific by establishing its Smart Manufacturing Experience Centre at Bukit Jalil.

The centre is expected to be launched by early next year.

SIRIM president and group chief executive Ir Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohammad Hani said, the centre which was an initiative under its Centre of Excellence for Smart Manufacturing, will enable small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to be assessed, learn and understand relevant platform or technology and use case studies to propel SMEs into the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0).

He said SIRIM will collaborate with well-known international companies such as Hitachi Asia (Malaysia), Bosch Rexroth and Huawei to identify affordable and suitable information technology (IT) solutions related to local SMEs.

“The experience centre also aims to train the industries, SMEs and institutions of higher learning with the application of IR 4.0 technology.

“It will also enable local talents especially the SME space to develop solutions in their production line or shop,” he said to the media after moderating the Webinar Technology Platform: Towards Affordable and Cost-Effective Digitalisation Process, here.

Ahmad Fadzil said, with close links to the industry and SIRIM’s understanding on IR 4.0 technology, the agency will introduce more new concepts of ideas to be more efficient and productive by the adoption of relevant platforms and technology such as augmented reality and automated optical inspection to the local players especially to the SMEs.

“SIRIM’s capabilities and collaboration with Hitachi, Huawei and Bosch are seen as bringing closer partnership on digital technology and experiences through our smart centre of excellence.

“The greatest technology that we offer is related to the food and beverage sector, machinery and some other sectors that we are looking into but which are still in the planning stage,” he said.

He added, SIRIM also plans to expand their experience centre in Kulim, Kedah in a few years time if they achieve the expected success.
