Kuala Lumpur – The inaugural Asia Beauty & Wellness Awards 2017 was launched on 18 August 2017 to pay tribute and recognize the achievements of leaders and upcoming companies and individuals changing the game in the health, beauty and wellness communities within the region.
The Global Wellness Economy is now valued at $3.7 trillion, making it one of the fastest growing economic category. Domestically, the wellness industry is growing at an increasing rate of 12.8% annually between 2012 to 2017. Coupled with incentives from the government, it is targeted to contribute RM400 million to the country’s gross national income by 2020, and by extension create 3,500 jobs. The Asia Beauty & Wellness Awards 2017 aims to encourage a competitive landscape for brands and companies in the current market.
The awards programme pools together top market players, wellness entrepreneurs and practitioners within the region. It provides a well endowed platform for networking opportunities, leadership sharing and a showcase of the wellness industry’s latest trends and developments. Nominees will be vetted according to several criteria including brand definition, management standards, professionalism, customer service, quality of product/service, sustainability, corporate social responsibility and innovation. The judging process includes site visits to the operating premises of nominated companies plus interviews with the founders and management teams of nominated companies.
The awards are divided into three main sections – Companies/Brands, Wellness Personalities and Special Achievements. Companies/Brands will see nominations from multiple products and service-based categories such as Best Spa & Wellness Centre, Best Destination Spa, Best Traditional Treatment, Best Ayurvedic Centre, Best in Medical Tourism and Most Celebrated Brand. Wellness Personalities will see nominees from around Asia vying for the top title in the following categories – Top 10 Wellness-preneurs, Well-ness Personality of the Year and the region’s Best Spa Therapist. Special Achievements awards will also be given out to notable winners from five key categories – Medical, TCM, Natural, Healing and Health.
The administration of the awards will follow stringent monitoring and documentation of every step of the process. This ensures the authenticity of nominees and that standard operating procedures are met with and executed according to pre-set standards.
An advisory panel has been created to support the awards committee to ensure unbiased opinions as regards to the winning companies, individuals, properties, brands, treatments or products. The panel comprises of notable personalities and experts who have notable track records in unique niches within the wellness and beauty industries including Atilia Haron (Malaysia), Dee Dee Mahmood (Singapore), Dr. Andrea (Bali), Sarina Sundara Rajah (Malaysia), Shobie Malani (Malaysia), Jojo Struys (Malaysia) and Carey Ng (Malaysia).
