KUALA LUMPUR, 25 September 2019 – In conjunction, with World Heart Day 2019 which falls
on September 29, Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL) has embarked on its
CVSKL Heart Health Campaign, offering free electrocardiogram (ECG) tests to the public in
partnership with Qualitas Health.

From October 1 till December 31 of this year, Malaysians over the age of 40 can walk into 10
selected Qualitas clinics in Klang Valley for a free test. This is particularly aimed at those with
cardiovascular diseases in their family medical history, have high cholesterol, are hypertensive
or have high Body Mass Index.

“At CVSKL, we have noticed young patients coming in for treatment of heart diseases. We are referring to those even younger than 58 which is the average age of patients with heart disease in Malaysia. This is worrying because even the average age for heart diseases is younger than that of other countries like Thailand (65), Singapore (61) and even the USA (66),” states Tan Sri Dr. Yahya Awang, Chairman of CVSKL.

“The Health Ministry lists heart disease as the leading cause of death in Malaysians between
2005 and 2017. As one of the leading providers of heart health treatment, we feel that it is likely that the average age for contracting heart diseases will only get younger despite the
advancement in detection and treatment of heart disease. This is mainly due to the unhealthy
lifestyle of our people.

“Many are not eating properly nor healthily, and many more are not exercising enough because of hectic schedules. Yes, we acknowledge some health-conscious Malaysians who go for regular check-ups but there are many who do not do it which results in diseases that go undetected and untreated,” Dr. Yahya adds.

Chairman of Qualitas Healthcare Dato’ Dr. Noorul Ameen Mohamed Ishack said by offering free ECG, it is hoped that the public will be motivated to get themselves checked and detect any problems they may not be aware of.

“The selected clinics listed are well-equipped to conduct the ECG test. We are targeting for at
least 3,000 people to come to our clinics to conduct the test through the duration of the
campaign,” Dato’ Dr Noorul Ameen said.
