SURREY, 10 October 2018 – The 2018 Royal Selangor Trophy was presented to Justin
Rose at Walton Heath Golf Club today by Peter Coleman, Non-Executive Director of
Royal Selangor International.
Olympic champion and current world number two golfer, Justin Rose, had the lowest
score of -12 for the combined scores of the four Majors played in 2018. The golfer must
compete in all four rounds from the Masters, the US Open, the Open Championship and
the PGA Championship, to be in the running for the Royal Selangor Trophy.
Winning this award might be considered an even greater challenge than any one tournament as it means returning the lowest score for 288 holes over 16 separate days of the Majors, spread over 4 months. Only 33 golfers in nearly 60 years have won this trophy.
Tiger Woods was the first recipient of the original trophy in 1999. It was presented in
Kuala Lumpur at a function before he competed in the World Cup that year, with Mark
O'Meara.
The trophy features a Royal Selangor pewter bowl set on a rosewood base.
The idea of the trophy was originally conceived by Colin MacGillivray, an architect working in Malaysia. He placed the names of the previous winners on the trophy base, and arranged
for its presentation to Tiger Woods.
