There are myriad talented culinary students, who take pride in their cooking abilities, are trapped in their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with no avenue to showcase their skills. Thus, Midea Scott & English Electronics Sdn Bhd, together with Malaysia’s MasterChef Dato Fazley, had organised the first-ever hybrid cooking competition, particularly for the campus students.
“I believe the best chef should cook from the heart and taste your food with a clean spoon. Moreover, you must cook with the right and proper equipment, and today, the finest equipment for any young chef is Midea’s kitchen appliances,” said Dato Fazley Yaakob, one of the judges for the competition.
Campus MasterChef Challenge (CM), a nationwide event, was kicked off in November 2020 with hundreds of participants from 400 teams across 80 universities, nationwide. Consequently,40 shortlisted teams were provided with some Midea products: blender, streamer, air fryer and cooker in order to whip up a famous family recipe. Participants were required to cover the entire process in video and share it with Dato Fazley who eventually selected the finest dish.
With strict SOP compliance, the final 4 teams with 2 members each were judged by Dato Fazley Yaakob, Celebrity Chef, KB Lim, Marketing Manager of Midea Scott & English Electronics Sdn Bhd and Junior Sous Chef of Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Chef Suffian.
“One of the reasons why this event obtained Midea’s support, is to cultivate the interest of the young generation to cook and to enhance their culinary skills. Despite the changes caused by the pandemic and with the new normal, cooking at home, using the right appliances is crucial as it can save time and at the same time help us to cook in an efficient way. This is where Midea comes in to complement your home and kitchen,” said Mark Tam Tuck Chuen, General Manager of Midea Scott & English
