Thailand joins leading digital service provider AIS 5G to promote local tourism sector

Bangkok, 24 October 2023 The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has teamed up with AIS, a leading digital services provider, to promote the country’s burgeoning tourism sector through an innovative marketing campaign.

“Our ‘Welcome Back to Thailand’ campaign aims to showcase the country’s potential as a world-class tourist destination,” Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, TAT’s deputy governor for international (Asia and South Pacific) marketing, said.

“This novel campaign will facilitate ease-of-travel for visitors, in line with Thailand’s goal of revitalizing its tourism industry,” he added.

Top-Tier Services, Optimal Comfort

The campaign allows prospective visitors to obtain the “Amazing Thailand” SIM card through online travel agents in their home countries. The card provides tourists with high-speed internet access from the moment they get off the plane.

Provided by Advance Info Service (AIS), Thailand’s fastest digital network, the SIM card delivers 8 gigabytes of high-speed internet for a complimentary trial period. It also provides access to a range of services from leading local lifestyle partners.

According to Chattan Kunjara, over 20 million tourists have visited Thailand so far this year, including 14.7 million from Asian and Pacific markets such as China, Malaysia and India.

“In hopes of maintaining this momentum, TAT is committed to providing visitors with top-tier services in order to ensure optimal comfort and enhance their overall travel experience,” he explained.

The campaign has been officially kicked off on October 17 and will continue to run until March 31, 2027.

AIS 5G No.1 The Fastest Network in Thailand

Through the campaign, TAT plans to distribute one million SIM cards to incoming tourists, along with exclusive e-voucher privileges from partner organizations.

“Distribution will be carried out through TAT’s Asia and South Pacific regional offices,” Chattan Kunjara said. “We believe this will serve as a valuable marketing tool in conjunction with international travel agencies, airlines, and associations.”

Pratthana Leelapanang, chief consumer business officer at AIS, stressed the company’s commitment to promoting the local tourism sector. “As the country’s leading digital service provider, we want to give tourists the very best travel experience–from the moment they arrive in Thailand,” he said.

“Today’s tourists typically rely on digital channels for numerous aspects of their travel itinerary,” he added. “These include financial transactions, hotel reservations, shopping, and even government services.”

Countrywide Coverage

Pratthana also noted the growing community of “digital nomads” who prefer to work while they’re traveling.

“For this reason, a seamless internet connection is of vital importance,” she explained. “With 45 million subscribers, AIS provides 5G, fixed broadband and top-quality Wi-Fi, ensuring full coverage in virtually every corner of Thailand.”

The “Amazing Thailand” SIM card also provides access to a range of premium lifestyle partners, including Bangkok Insurance, Central Group, Central Retail, Central Pattana, Centara Hotels & Resorts, and a number of others.

Through the “Welcome Back to Thailand” campaign, visitors will also be eligible for free or discounted food and shopping experiences at the country’s best-known tourist destinations.  The campaign’s other privileges include travel insurance coverage worth up to 50,000 Baht, shopping discounts, and hotel accommodations.
