Kuala Lumpur, 9 December 2020 – The health ministry says the decision to allow interstate travel was made after studies were conducted on the need to balance health and economic concerns.

Deputy Health Minister Aaron Ago Dagang said despite lifting travel restrictions when high numbers of Covid-19 were still being reported on a daily basis, the ministry was committed to preventing the spread of the virus.

“The government is constantly working to address the Covid-19 situation in the country and several steps have been taken to balance health and economic needs, including allowing interstate and inter-district travel.

“Even though Covid-19 cases are rising, the decision was made based on studies conducted,” he said at the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was responding to a supplementary question from Ma’mun Sulaiman (Warisan-Kalabakan) on whether the ministry agreed with the easing of travel restrictions despite the Covid-19 situation.
