The opening ceremony was officiated by State Assemblyman for KOMTAR Teh Lai Heng and PPB Properties CEO Low Eng Hooi.

This year’s theme highlights the rich historical legacy of the heritage buildings in Georgetown, and to pay tribute to the artistry in Penang’s traditional craftsmen.

“This year’s theme holds a particular significance, as besides the continuation of appreciating the architectural designs of Penang’s heritage buildings, the campaign also shines a spotlight on those forgotten traditional craftsmen,” said Teh Lai Heng, during his speech at the opening ceremony.

“This particular focus holds a special place in my heart as it serves as a tribute to these artisans, whose skills and expertise are in danger of being lost to time. Through the programmes, we can ensure that these cultural treasures are not forgotten and their enduring legacies are preserved for future generations to appreciate and cherish,” Teh said.

Penang Heritage Photography Fiesta is a three-pronged campaign involving photography and videography workshops, a competition, and a photo exhibition.

“Through the various activities held from now until July, we hope to unite photo and video enthusiasts from all walks of life. This campaign aims to create awareness and appreciation of our architectural and cultural heritage for generations-to-come by documenting Penang’s heritage through the art of photography and videography,” said PPB Properties CEO Low Eng Hooi.

During the opening event, the photo and video competition which will run from 8 April to 11 June 2023 was also announced. A total of 20 winners across all four categories in the competition stand a chance to win attractive prizes worth RM22,000.

The Photography Fiesta 2.0 continued with a videography workshop for youths aged 15-25 on 9 April 2023 at The Whiteaways Arcade, Penang led by experienced SONY trainers.

The inaugural Photography Fiesta was held successfully last year, with over 450 participants.
