KUALA LUMPUR, 21 July 2017 – In the spirit of giving, PETRONITA, or the Association of Wives and Women Staff of PETRONAS, celebrated Eid with the beneficiaries of its annual charity marathon event, the Orchid Run & Ride.

Present at the event were the recipients of the charity fund, family members and care providers from the Paediatric & Congenital Heart Centre (PCHC) of the National Heart Institute (IJN) and Institute Telinga Pendengaran dan Pertuturan (I-HEARS).

The event was hosted by the President of PETRONITA, Datin Dr Azura Ahmad Tajuddin who was elated at the opportunity to celebrate the festivities with the two charitable bodies that are close to PETRONITA’s heart. “We are grateful that the funds raised from Orchid Run & Ride 2016 were able to help improve the wellbeing of the recipients. No words can describe how happy we are to have them with us today, to see first-hand how our little contributions have made a difference in their lives,” she said.

Also present at the event was Ritzzawati Rosli Mohd Rosli from the IJN Foundation, who works closely with the doctors and patients from the PCHC unit. She commented: “We have worked with PETRONITA since the first Orchid Run & Ride back in 2015. We are deeply grateful for the contribution and support given for the past two years which benefitted nine children under the PCHC care. We are honoured to be part of this wonderful event again this year and hope that the public can continue to support this cause.”

PETRONITA announced that the Orchid Run & Ride will return for its 3rd instalment which will be held on 24 September 2017 at Persiaran KLCC. “We are targeting to raise approximately RM250,000 this year which will be channeled to our beneficiaries namely PCHC of IJN, I-HEARS and the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor & Federal Territory,” said Datin Dr Azura.

The Orchid Run & Ride 2017 is expected to attract 7,000 runners and cyclists. There are two main categories, namely Category A – 12km Run: Men’s & Women’s Open (open to ages 16 years and above); and two subcategories under Category B, namely the 5km Fun Run (open to ages 7 years and above) and 5km Fun Ride (open to ages 12 years and above). According to PETRONITA, response this year has been encouraging as evidenced by sold out sales for Category B.

“We wish to drive the message of ‘Making each step matter’, the theme chosen this year to serve as a reminder that a little goes a long way. We call for everyone to join us in our effort to help the less fortunate while at the same time promoting a healthy lifestyle. This is a collaborative effort and its success is dependent on the continuous support from the public, our partners and contributors,” said Datin Dr Azura.

PETRONITA is the association for wives and female staff of PETRONAS and is one of the sanctioned clubs for PETRONAS. Their association’s main objective is to unite and foster closer relationship among the employees’ spouses and female employees of PETRONAS.
