MDEC raises over RM387,000 for frontliners in Covid-19 fight

Malaysia, 2 June 2020 – Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has raised over RM387,000 in pledges from internal and external donors during its #DigitalVsCovid movement for frontliners.

MDEC chief executive officer Surina Shukri said the campaign, which kicked off on April 1, involved a coordination between MDEC and tech companies in rallying support to provide lifesaving supplies and equipment to the medical professionals.

“Despite being impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysian digital businesses continued to stand out as pillars within the local communities they serve,” she said. 

It added that the pandemic relief supplies included personal protective equipment/intensive care unit suits (sterile protective coverall), 3-ply face masks, face visors, ‘space’ suits, food and general supplies, and other types of required medical equipment.

Among the companies that contributed were Les’ Copaque Production Sdn Bhd, Giggle Garage Sdn Bhd, Animonsta Studios Sdn Bhd, Digital Durian, Mirayi Sdn Bhd, The R&D Studio, Vision Animation Sdn Bhd, and Pixelline Production Sdn Bhd.

The funds were channeled to IMARET, a certified non-profit organisation which will be distributing the items to hospitals and health clinics nationwide.
