Malaysia, 16 May 2020 – Barely a month since they reopened their stores to Malaysians for their household essentials, Harvey Norman gives back to the nation’s heroes in Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) by providing buka puasa meals, gift vouchers worth RM15,000 and a donation of 10 laptops for the hospital’s Covid-19 operations.
With presence throughout Malaysia, Harvey Norman was greatly impacted by the Movement Control Order that took place since 18 March 2020 which forced all stores to be closed.
“It has been a challenging couple of months for everyone. While our medical frontliners are risking their lives at work, we took the downtime to work with the different stakeholders and suppliers to give back to our selfless heroes. Now that the Conditional Movement Control Order has been extended for another month, their battles continue and we’re taking this opportunity to offer them a small token of appreciation for their huge contribution to the nation,” says Kenneth Aruldoss, Managing Director of Harvey Norman Asia.
“Managing the pandemic on the frontline is a huge responsibility. We really should not take their sacrifices for granted. We hope our contribution today eases their burden a little bit,” adds Ian Martin, General Manager of Electrical Division, Harvey Norman Malaysia.
Besides being a multinational retailer for household items such as electrical, furniture and bedding, Harvey Norman is also a leading retailer in computers, mobile phones and IT accessories.
“We were extremely humbled and thankful when Harvey Norman reached out to us. The donated laptops will be used for data collection, statistics, medication presentation, coordination of patients and wards — under the crisis preparedness response centre of HKL and Ministry of Health,” says Norazah, Head of the Corporate Communications Unit, Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
Danny Lau, General Manager of Computers & Corporate Division, Harvey Norman Malaysia adds, “We are very honoured to be able to provide these laptops to HKL. We hope that these laptops can ease the workflows of the medical team in HKL.”
Besides their contribution to Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Harvey Norman also chose to provide meals through PichaEats, where wholesome homemade meals are prepared by Picha Chefs consisting of refugee mothers living in Malaysia. With every meal purchased, 50% of the sales go to the Chefs to cover raw ingredient costs and their basic living expenses.
Since the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order on 4 May 2020, Harvey Norman has been granted the approval to resume its operations at all stores nationwide for all electrical, computers, furniture & bedding products.
