Kuala Lumpur, March 16, 2017: Your favorite gaming applications might be ‘knocked out’ from Apple App Store if developers fail to make the upcoming iOS 11 update compatible with them, say tech experts.
More than 187,000 apps, of which 38,000 are games, are not updated to be compatible for 64-bit processors, is at risk of being removed from the App Store, according to Sensor Tower, a leading app analytics platform.
The iOS 11 is expected to make its debut in September.
It is reported that games occupy the largest category of iOS apps worldwide, which makes it the largest representation among the total number of potential obsolete apps.
Games account for about 38,600 of the approximately 187,000 apps not updated for 64-bit processors, or 20.6 percent of the total, according to the recent report.
App categories next at risk are education at 10.6 per cent, entertainment at 7.6 per cent, and lifestyle at 6.9 per cent.
“iOS developers working with the beta version of iOS 10.3 discovered a warning dialog stating that apps which runs 32-bit processors found in every new iPhone will not work with future versions of iOS.”
“This led developers to assume that Apple would be dropping support for 32-bit apps in iOS 11,” reported Sensor Tower.
Based on their App Intelligence data report, currently active apps that have ranked in either the top free, paid, or grossing charts since their release shows that approximately 8 per cent of the roughly 2.4 million apps are not updated.
Since last October, Apple had removed at least 47,000 apps from the store, according to the report.
