Kuala Lumpur, 27 August 2024 – UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) is pleased to announce the launch of the ‘Malaysian Companies Best Practices in Business Integrity and Anti-Corruption’ case studies, highlighting the successful implementation of anti-corruption measures by leading Malaysian companies. The case studies, developed in collaboration with Monash University Malaysia, underscores the commitment to fostering integrity across the business landscape.
The case studies were unveiled during UNGCMYB’s Business Integrity Knowledge Session, held on 27 August 2024 at Aloft KL Sentral. This half-day event brought together national and international experts to discuss governance and business integrity, emphasising the importance of collective action in the fight against corruption.
The session provided a platform for sharing best practices and fostering collaboration among stakeholders committed to increase business integrity and to collectively advance the anti-corruption agenda.
Faroze Nadar, UNGCMYB Executive Director, commented: “At UNGCMYB, we believe in the transformative power of collective action. The Tenth Principle of the UN Global Compact unequivocally states that. ‘Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.’ This principle underscores our call to companies to develop robust policies and programmes that address all forms of corruption.
The case studies presented in this collection highlight the successful implementation of anti-corruption measures by corporates and SMEs in Malaysia. We commend these companies for their leadership and commitment to transparency. Their efforts not only enhance their performance but also contribute to a more transparent global economy. We hope that these case studies will serve as valuable resources, inspiring other businesses to adopt best practices and join the collective fight against corruption.”
Highlights of the Event:
- Case Study Launch: Dr. Puspavathy Rassiah, Senior Lecturer at Monash University Malaysia, presented key findings from the newly released case studies. These studies showcase how Malaysian companies, regardless of size, have successfully implemented
anti-corruption measures based on the TRUST principles: Top Level Commitment, Rigorous Risk Assessment, Proactive Control Measures, Systematic Review, Monitoring, and Enforcement, and Robust Training and Communication.
- Good Governance Insights: Participants also benefited from a presentation by Dr. Shinya Fujino, Associate Professor at Reitaku University and Secretariat of the Anti-Bribery Committee Japan (ABCJ), who shared valuable insights into good governance practices from Japan, offering an international perspective on anti-corruption efforts.
- Expert Q&A and Roundtable: An interactive Q&A session and a roundtable discussion provided attendees with opportunities to engage directly with experts and peers, deepening their understanding of business integrity and governance.
