Kuala Lumpur, 9 December 2020 – JM Newton Energy (JM Newton), a Malaysian green technology service provider specialising in energy management and enhancement, successfully closed its equity crowdfunding (ECF) campaign with Ata Plus, a registered and recognised ECF platform by the Securities Commission. JM Newton closed its campaign 954% above its initial target, raising RM2.9 million from 11 investors, 3 of them being female investors.

Aligned with the nation’s goals for a greener Malaysia and a better tomorrow, JM Newton provides turn-key technological solutions for shopping malls and hypermarkets, aimed at promoting energy savings without additional cost or risks. It’s eco-friendly and green-qualified patented systems and solutions have been applied to a wide range of Malaysian shopping centres and local hypermarket chains, and will continue to be applied through the energy management contracts which JM Newton has secured over the next 5-10 years.

Emboldened by the support received through its ECF campaign, Nicole J Szeto, JM Newton’s Executive Director said, “We are really pleased with the performance of our ECF Campaign. We took special care in designing the investment offering to ensure that the terms are fair and favourable to the investors. The high oversubscription shows the level of confidence the investors have in our business.” In the midst of the Covid 19 pandemic’s impact on the economy, JM Newton’s technology can help business owners reduce their operational cost and also effectively eliminate the viruses and bacteria that exist in the water cooling system. “Our unique solutions and our zero Capex business model should reach out to most business owners during these times. Moving ahead, we look forward to taking the step in realising our company’s growth potential,” Nicole added.

Approximately 60% of the funds raised will be invested in JM Newton’s working capital to accommodate the increasing demand for its products and services. The remaining funds will be channelled towards further research and development to strengthen JM Newton’s product efficiency and customer experience, marketing initiatives, operating expenses and expansion of human resources.

Kyri Andreou, Co-Founder and Director of Ata Plus shared, “JM Newton is a company that walks the talk in making the world eco-friendlier and more sustainable through its tried and tested technology. The investors who have come onboard this ECF Campaign are responsible investors who recognise JM Newton’s potential in providing market-sensitive services that are socially, economically and environmentally impactful.” In its ECF Crowdfunding Campaign, JM Newton also received a significant amount of investments from 3 female investors. Women are key in ensuring that women-owned businesses continue to thrive. Traditionally female entrepreneurs suffer from gender biases which lead to lower amounts of funding received. “It is heartening to see more women coming together to support women-led businesses. Moving forward, Ata Plus would like to encourage more female investors to participate in our campaigns. Currently, only 26% of the investors who have participated in the ECF campaigns on our platform have been women,” Kyri added.
