Kuala Nerus, 15 July 2021 – PETRONAS, through its technical learning arm Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP), recently organised a virtual Conference and Dialogue 2021 themed ‘Managing Global Talents in Oil & Gas Industry’ for international participants. The session amplifies its 17 years-long commitment towards international technical cooperation activities under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) steered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) since 2010.

30 participants from Uzbekistan, Ecuador, Azerbaijan, Timor-Leste and Sudan enjoyed an opportunity to exchange their insights and experiences as oil and gas industry players in their respective localities and deliberate on strategic plans that meet the demand of the volatile industry.

INSTEP Chief Executive Officer Idris Ibrahim said, “Since 2004, INSTEP with the support of the Malaysian Government has been championing a series of technical conferences to help achieve MTCP’s objectives, amongst them in sharing Malaysia’s development experiences with other countries. As a fully integrated world-class training provider with 40 years of experience in the business, INSTEP plays a significant role in promoting oil and gas technical collaboration with the participation of regulators and energy industry leaders from developing countries.”

Commenting further on INSTEP’s involvement in MTCP, Head of INSTEP Maintenance Academy, Wan Zulfakrurazi Wan Abd Majid, said that he is proud to have witnessed the development of Malaysia and other third world countries in their technical experience and expertise.

“When I joined INSTEP in 1991 as an instructor, Malaysia was in dire need of local talents in the oil and gas sector. Today, Malaysians are sharing their technology and knowledge abroad, and INSTEP is also supporting the growth of talents in other developing countries such as Sudan and Turkmenistan,” added Wan Zulfakrurazi, who also helped established a technical training centre in Khartoum for the Sudanese youth.

INSTEP will be holding its next round of dialogue sessions themed ‘Best Practices for HSE and Maintenance Excellence in Oil & Gas Industry’ in August 2021.
