Kuala Lumpur, 21 April 2020 — GoCar Malaysia is announcing an extension of its ongoing ‘GoClean’ campaign to include disinfecting as part of its car-cleaning procedure. This additional measure is to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of all cars in the fleet as the COVID-19 crisis evolves.
As the nation entered the third phase of the Movement Control Order (MCO) on 15 April, GoCar saw the need to introduce a more thorough cleaning procedure and ramp up frequency for cars to be cleaned. One of many efforts in providing the on-ground team with antimicrobial cleaning products to wipe surfaces that are frequently touched such as the steering wheel, seats, door handles, handbrake, and gear stick when cars are being cleaned. This is to ensure everyone in its car-sharing community has a safe and comfortable journey travelling in isolation with a GoCar for various reasons, including buying basic necessities such as groceries for personal use and for small business owners to deliver orders to their customers.
Alan Cheah, CEO of GoCar Malaysia elaborated on the new cleaning protocols. “In order to allow our members to continue accessing and using cars on-demand, our fleet maintenance team may not be able to attend to each car after every booking. This is a balancing act between making sure GoCar is available to help those who need a car to commute and having our team cleaning cars as regularly as possible. However, we have taken proactive measures by upgrading our cleaning procedures to ensure all cars are cleaned rigorously. For cars that can’t be cleaned as scheduled due to travelling restrictions related to MCO, we will block the car until our team can attend to it.”
“To ensure we do everything we can to keep our car sharing community safe, we are working with local disinfectant companies now to have our cars professionally disinfected,” Cheah added. Professional disinfection services for homes, offices, and cars include the process of fogging disinfection to kill viruses and bacterias and mist spray disinfection to ensure every corner and edge of the area are covered.
The ongoing ‘GoClean’ campaign is extended in light of GoCar’s recent community initiatives that gained popularity over the last 2 weeks. Their partnership with Shell Malaysia to provide free cars and petrol for healthcare frontliners has garnered over 800 sign-ups to date, while GoCar for Delivery has mobilised over 300 business owners to make their own deliveries. GoCar will also continue providing anti-bacterial wipes containing benzalkonium chloride in each car’s glove compartment for their members to wipe down the car for themselves and others even after the MCO period ends.
