ERL Operations Staff Returned Home after Seconded to the Makkah Metro Operations 2018 Hajj Season

Kuala Lumpur, 7 Sept– Express Rail Link Sdn. Bhd (ERL) welcomed back all of it’s  33 staff who were sent to Saudi Arabia on 1st July to provide operational support for the Makkah Metro line.

The 33 staffs of ERL and ERL Maintenance Support Sdn Bhd (E-MAS) returned to Malaysia on 7th September after being based in Makkah for two months.

Their arrival was welcomed by the Chief Executive Officer of ERL, Noormah Mohd Noor,  ERL and E-MAS staff and their family members in a welcome home session held at Arrival Hall, Level 3, KLIA.

The session was filled with laughter and happiness as family members embraced each other.

Once again, ERL was given the opportunity to become a part of the support system of a railway system that operates only once a year during the Hajj season, the Makkah Metro. This rail service has considerably provided the pilgrims with a safer and more comfortable pilgrimage.

“I am very happy to welcome each of the staff home after being given such a huge responsibility and they undoubtedly did a very good job. I am also very grateful that each and every one of you came home in safely. This opportunity was an achievement for ERL which is attributed to our good track record, operations expertise and competent staff” as Noormah expressed her gratitude in a speech she delivered at the event.

All 33 staff  were seconded to support the Makkah Metro Line operations this year to carry out the duties as Deputy Station Manager, Station Master, Assistant Station Master and Station Control Room Agent among others.

Express Rail Link (ERL) is the operator of KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit train services that connect Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA & KLIA2) and the city. The non-stop 57-km journey on KLIA Ekspres between KL Sentral and KLIA takes only 28 minutes. Passengers can also take a 3-minute ride between KLIA2 and KLIA. The KLIA Transit service stops at three intermediate stations i.e. Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya&Cyberjaya and Salak Tinggi.

ERL has been recognised locally and internationally for consistently providing high standards in the air-rail services industry. ERL was named AirRail Link of the Year at the Global AirRail Awards in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016. On the home front, ERL was awarded the Best Operator (Railway) in 2017 by Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (SPAD). To date, ERL has carried more than 90 million passengers.
