Kuala Lumpur, 27 September 2022 – Chubb Insurance Malaysia Berhad today announced a commitment to reforestation efforts in Borneo through a collaboration with Animal Projects & Environmental Education Sdn. Bhd. (APE Malaysia). This initiative is in line with Chubb’s long history of supporting environmental and ecological restoration projects that protect biodiversity and capture or prevent the release of carbon.
Launched under Chubb’s “More Trees for A Better Tomorrow” Project and APE Malaysia’s “Restore Our Amazing Rainforest (ROAR)” Programme, the reforestation initiative will see a contribution of 10 new trees planted for every Chubb customer that has an Environmental Impairment Liability Insurance policy. Policyholders will receive a photo and an electronic certificate showing the GPS coordinates where their trees are located. The project is in the Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, Sabah.
“APE Malaysia is happy to plant trees with Chubb Insurance Malaysia Berhad on behalf of their customers. This partnership allows us to plant more trees on our habitat restoration sites in the Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary. In recent years, we have seen more companies and businesses taking positive actions for the environment. This collaboration shows Chubb Insurance Malaysia Berhad’s commendable commitment to this cause. They will also indirectly support the local community that is involved in our project. We hope to see more companies doing their part in making a positive difference for the environment,” said Mazrul Mahadzir, Project Director of APE Malaysia.
Earlier this year, Chubb successfully planted 220 trees via APE Malaysia’s ROAR Programme. “We recognise that supporting planned reforestation efforts is an important way in reversing biodiversity loss and mitigating climate change. It is with great pleasure to know that through this collaboration, we are not just helping to restore degraded forests, but also create reforestation-related job opportunities for the local community,” said Steve Crouch, Country President of Chubb in Malaysia.
“As a company, we have been working to reduce the environmental footprint of our operations through tangible initiatives, beginning internally with digitalisation efforts to reduce paper consumption. We are proud of the progress we have made and are committed to taking further steps to create meaningful improvements,” added Steve.
