Petaling Jaya, 29 July 2022 – Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara (THKD) announces the launch of its new Eye Health facility following the expansion of its new building. The opening garnered a crowd from the surrounding community of Kota Damansara, neighbourhood doctors, opticians, optometrists, and business partners. Free vision screening for children and funds screening for adults were offered among other fun activities.

“In line with the hospital’s mission to deliver high-quality and value-based medical services to patients, our team of consultant ophthalmologists and optometrists is building awareness on the importance of eye screening and management of eye care for both adults and children,” said Nadiah Wan, Chief Executive Officer of THKD.

Several eye disorders may not have any warning signs until later stages when vision is already affected. In a survey conducted by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, the National Eye Census 2014 reported that 113,000 Malaysians over the age of 50 suffered from permanent blindness with 38% cases caused by severe cataracts, and early detection could have prevented impairment.

“Even though you may not experience vision-related issues, it is advisable for everyone to undergo eye screening once every two years, regardless of age, socioeconomic status, or gender. As for children, parents can bring them for vision screening as early as one year of age and eye checks are also highly recommended before they enter kindergarten or primary school,” mentioned Yong Ai Chee, Chief Optometrist and Assistant Manager of Eye Health.

With the new building in operation, THKD has increased its capacity to 559 beds, 11 operating theatres, additional specialist clinics, and a new Oncology & Nuclear Medicine centre. THKD foresees playing an even bigger role in not only providing services but also in innovating new healthcare solutions. Eye Health at Thomson Hospital offers a range of ophthalmology services to treat common eye conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy as well as optometry services that focus on vision care like sight testing and management of vision changes, contact lens fitting, and aftercare.

Eye Health @ Thomson Hospital is located at Level 2, Block C of THKD. For more information or to book an appointment, please contact the Eye Health team at 03-6287 1363.
